AI in the Meaning Layer

The paper that completes the four-part AI series. It locates the AI encounter inside the meaning-layer — consciously induced matter as met from the first-person side of the perception channel. Foundation models are the first sustained, open-domain, language-producing synthetic source operating inside that layer, and the encounter's strangeness is not confusion to be corrected but data about the layer itself.

The mechanism is misrecognition with a real object: mind-recognition heuristics fire on a genuine surface signature produced by a non-mind structural source, and the felt dissonance is the meaning-layer becoming visible — structural sight forming. The glass-and-fingerprint move: a medium becomes visible when something sufficiently foreign lands in it at sustained scale. The paper holds the structural facts from AI as Synthetic Collapse in view throughout, and tracks the update already underway: AI outputs entering the layer become records that reshape its constraints.
